SUMMARY:Danish documentary - SAILAU by Thor F. Jensen
DESCRIPTION:Thor F. Jensen\, born in Copenhagen in 1981\, is a distinguished Danish adventurer\,\nfilmmaker\, illustrator\, and television host whose work embodies Denmark’s rich\nexploratory heritage. As a world-record-holding explorer and member of the\nAdventurers Club of Denmark (Eventyrernes Klub)\, Thor continues the legacy of\nDanish pioneers\, bringing stories of adventure and cultural significance to global\naudiences.\nThor’s most notable achievement is the award-winning documentary SAILAU\, which\nchronicles the first-ever circumnavigation of the island of New Guinea in a traditional\nsailing canoe. This remarkable expedition\, undertaken with Papua New Guinean\nmaster sailors Sanakoli John\, Justin John\, and Job Siyae\, not only set a world record\nbut also highlighted the importance of preserving traditional maritime knowledge. \nProgram: \n\n\n4pm – bar and kitchen open for pre drinks and food\n6pm – presentation and introduction by Thor F. Jensen\n6:30pm – movie screening\, no service during movie\n8:pm – Q&A\n\n\nThe journey began on August 30\, 2016\, from Milne Bay\, Papua New Guinea\, aboard\nthe Tawali Pasana\, a traditional SAILAU (sailing canoe). Over 13 months and 21\ndays\, the crew navigated 6\,300 kilometres\, facing treacherous reefs\, the formidable\nnorthwest monsoon\, and encounters with crocodiles. Throughout this arduous\nvoyage\, Thor apprenticed under the master sailors\, learning traditional navigation\nand sailing techniques. The expedition not only tested their physical endurance but\nalso fostered a profound cross-cultural bond\, showcasing the spirit of teamwork and\nfriendship.\nBeyond its storytelling\, SAILAU has become a vessel connecting people globally.\nThe film has brought together individuals\, companies and institutions from different\nnations\, fostering dialogue and cultural exchange. \nThrough these connections\, the film serves as a powerful testament to the unifying power of\nadventure and shared human experiences\, strengthening ties between Denmark\,\nPapua New Guinea\, Australia\, and the wider world.
